A Reconstruction Algorithm for Temporally Aliased Seismic Signals Recorded by the InSight Mars Lander

In December 2018, the NASA InSight lander successfully placed a seismometer on surface of Mars. Alongside, hammering device was deployed at landing site that penetrated into ground to attempt first measurements planetary heat flow The probe generated repeated seismic signals were registered by and can potentially be used image shallow subsurface just below lander. However, broad frequency content extends beyond Nyquist governed seismometer's sampling rate 100 samples per second. Here, we propose an algorithm reconstruct classical limits. We exploit structure in data due thousands repeated, only gradually varying as slowly penetrates ground. addition, make use fact are sub-sampled differently unsynchronized timing between hammer strikes recordings. This allows us limit enforcing sparsity constraint signal modified Radon transform domain. proposed method reduces uncorrelated noise recorded data. Using both synthetic actual Mars, show how high-frequency very high resolution.
